So this past Sunday I started work on two separate tip-ins for two separate projects.

The first one is for Red Lead's Favorite Colors and the second for a member of the Bad Baby's group which is on 50's.

For Red Lead I chose the color red -- no particular reason other than that was the first paint I pulled out of the drawer, LOL. I have to make 32 copies for this tip in and find something appropriately cool to add as some embellishments that won't cost me an arm and a leg.

When I get a chance I'll attach the pictures for these.

MIssion: Possible The Open House

Today is Open House here in Media Services. Last night I worked on the art collage from hell. The priner wouldn't print the image correctly -- using an old version of Photoshop - it's either the work space or the printer. It sucked.

So I try using the other printer I got very cheaply at Target with my laptop. Big mistake. No drivers. Went online took an hour to download the driver for the now Discontinued POS printer. Sucks. Then the refurbished cartridge didn't want to cooperate. My laptop recognizes the printer but the printer won't print. The POS.

Art is not for the faint of heart. Undaunted I decided to read some slash. OK if you don't know what that is don't look it up. It's for adults and well....just if you don't know don't ask me. I'll deny it.

I'm not kidding. Seriously. Saturday was one of those picture perfect October days with a crispness to the air. I decided almost at the last minute to take with me some of my own stuff for the class although the desription for the collage class said materials were included. I'm glad I did because I was able to make a really cool collage with one of my aunts as the focal point. The woman in the photo is my aunt Mary. I believe this picture was taken in the 40's or 50's. I believe that dress is handmade.

Sarah F. - Artist with Soul

Wednesday I took off the afternoon and went to Red Lead for a special demo at noon by collage artist Sarah Fishburn. Sarah is a funny funny lady. Anyone who names one of her kids September and doesn't mind chattering away while creating fantastic art in front of your eyes is OK in my book. Sarah demo'd cabinet cards and using Tim Holtz' dyes to add texture to old cabinet cards she's collected.
When ever Sarah "made a mistake" she incorporated the mistake in her work -- that's reassuring as I often make these "mistakes" that often turn into a learning experience or surprise surprise a better piece of art.
It was kinda strange to go to RL for the demo at noon and then return at 6 for the meet and greet weekly ATC evening. Interesting conversations between the women who stayed and made cards. I got some great ATC cards in exchange from Chris, Doris, and Kim. It's amazing what can be done on a 2.5 x 3.5 card.

tag collage by Donnaj

Ketchup for you

Darn! The first store that I went to for art supplies was Art Mart -- been going there off and on but didn't care for their stamp collection so with a little yellow pages and google-ing I found Red Lead that's on Manchester Road in Ballwin.

This store rocks - great merchandise and creatively friendly owners and customers. Every Saturday Red Lead offers free demos to see new techniques (or old techniques revamped) during the demo they usually offer some small refreshment and attendance prizes. I go more for the opportunity to be around other artists and just drink in the cool vibes of the people who I often see every week and the art work done by demonstrators and customers alike.

Red Lead is having an artist's weekend that kicks off this evening at 6:00 pm. I hope to get off work on time and get home freshen up and get to the store for a good seat. Hmmm. On second thought maybe I'll bring my own canvas chair. I've been threatening that for some time now. LOL.

Anyway I'm looking forward to this weekend and hopefully it's not too late to sign up for the soldering workshop at Red Lead this Sunday.

dj

Creating Art Part 1 Section1 Column 2

Worked in my little cramped and cluttered studio in the basement. The boxes and containers I bought at Target or at Goodwill have made a great improvement but I still need to get more organized.

The creative process is extremely satisfying especially if you're cooking along.
